The Mouflon

The Wildlife Park hosts some Mouflon specimens from the island of Giglio. The Mouflon is believed to be the domestic sheep’s ancient ancestor, having been present in the Mediterranean for about 10,000 years. An excellent climber, the Mouflon is also a skilled jumper and a fast runner (60 km/h). Its diet is poor, consisting of twigs, buds, young leaves and tree bark. They live within a fenced enclosure that includes woodland, pasture and a pond for drinking.

Curiosity: Males have two large horns which grow continuously and with a tendency to spiral laterally.
